Semis led the sector higher as market advances
Semiconductor Industry Association reported a 1.6% increase in chip sales
in September. AMD jumped 19%, while INTC added 8%. Many tech giants
advanced, including AAPL, ORCL, GOOG, etc.
AFTER HOURS: Sun Microsystems (JAVA) beat expectations but slid 3%.

Positive news from AAPL and YHOO were unable to ingnite the tech sector.
pple's results were helped by sales of almost 7 million iPhones in the
quarter, and continued growth in its Mac and iPod lines. EMC jumped 3% on
strong earnings.

Microsystems (JAVA) was one of the big losers after the company gave
preliminary first-quarter results more than a week earlier than planned
and continued to disappoint traders. The losses extended across the
sector. AAPL fell 6%.
AFTER HOURS: AAPL beat profit estimates and jumped 13%, YHOO impressed
investors and added 5%.
